Staff

Our Staff selection policy is strictly in accordance with the Care Standards Act and CSCI requirements. References, including prior employment and residency information, are required from all candidates. All candidates must submit to a Criminal Records Bureau check, which must prove satisfactory. We have a fundamental responsibility to protect the interests and well being of our clients, and all staff are made fully aware of this responsibility. All staff are checked against the national POVA register to confirm suitability in working with vulnerable adults.

All our staff are required to undergo induction training, which will include mandatory training covering the aims and objectives of the home, company rules, client personal care, clients rights, food hygiene, safe handling and moving, infection control, fire safety, health & safety at work and first aid.

Only staff that have been trained and qualified in the safe handling of medication may dispense medicines.

Staff supervisions reviews are conducted six times each year, and an annual staff appraisal meeting is required. These meetings enable staff to speak freely about their roles and aspirations.

The Hollies recognises the importance of staff training in maintaining and improving the quality of our services. We are committed to giving our staff every opportunity to gain the NVQ Level 2 qualifications in Health & Social Care. Almost all our staff holds this qualification, and our role in delivering, mentoring and assessing our staff training has enabled some staff to qualify at NVQ Level 3.

In building good, solid relationships with our staff, the Management operates an “Open Door” policy at all times. We have a clear, fair and open set of complaints and grievance procedures. Where rules may have been breached, staff are subject to an evenhanded “3 step” disciplinary procedure where an investigation, hearing and appeal form integral parts. Staff are protected by a “Whistle Blowing Policy”, that allows them to voice concern or complaint without censure or threat.
